he Tangerang City Police identified suspects in a shooting incident at the KM 45 rest area on the Tangerang-Merak toll road on Thursday.
Two victims were shot in the incident in Pabuaran village, Jayanti district, Tangerang regency, Banten, IA who was killed and R who suffered gunshot wounds to the hand.
According to Tangerang City Police public relations head Second Insp. Purbawa, four suspects were likely involved in the incident.
"We've identified several suspects, but we're not yet able to share further details. For now, the chief detective is still in the field actively working on the arrest," Purbawa said on Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.
The suspects stole a Honda Brio car rented on Dec. 31 from IA, the owner of Makmur Jaya car rental.
The suspects then deactivated two out of three GPS devices planted on the car, bringing suspicion to the Makmur Jaya management team. The car was then detected to be in Anyer, Serang regency, Banten.
When the victims attempted to stop the stolen car at the Saketi intersection in Pandeglang regency, one of the suspects drew a firearm and identified himself as a member of the Air Force, threatening the victims.
The situation escalated when a black Daihatsu Sigra, driven by another suspect, rammed into the victim's car. The suspects fled the scene while IA and his team pursued them toward Anyer.
"In Anyer we asked the local police for reinforcements, but they refused even though we told them the situation,” IA’s son, Rizky Agam said, as quoted by Kompas.
The car was then located at the toll road rest area with the Makmu Jaya management team trying to block the stolen Honda Brio, but the driver responded by drawing a gun and firing two warning shots before fatally shooting IA in the chest and injuring R in the shoulder.
Police have interviewed seven witnesses, including four individuals present at the scene and three family members of IA. Authorities are still working to determine the motive for the crime.
"We are continuing our comprehensive investigation. We are still tracing the motive, and we are committed to capturing the perpetrators soon," Tangerang Police City chief Sr. Comr. Baktiar Joko Mujiono said on Thursday in Jakarta.
