There has been no new evacuation order, but visitors and villagers have been told to vacate a zone 4 to 5.5 kilometers from the peak.
ount Ibu in Halmahera Island, North Maluku has erupted several times in the last few days, sending columns of ash between 2 and 4 kilometers into the air.
According to the Ibu observation post, the volcano erupted at around 6.30 a.m. on Monday, spewing thick gray ash columns 2,500 meters above the mountain’s summit with the clouds traveling westward.
The seismic record from the eruption showed a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 1 minute and 34 seconds, according to Axl Roeroe, an official at the observation post.
Axl also reported that the eruption's noise was audible at the monitoring post, which is located in Gam Ici village, about 9 km from the volcano.
"The rumbling sounds rattled our windows," he said on Monday, as reported by Kompas.com.
The volcano also erupted on Saturday night, releasing a column of smoke and ash 4 km into the air with lava observed 2 km from the eruption center.
Images from the volcano monitoring post showed a bright red column of flame and thick, dark smoke billowing high above the volcano crater.
