The officials were dismissed over problematic permits for coastal land that were issued during their tenure at the Tangerang Land Agency.
he Agrarian and Spatial Planning Ministry has fired six of its officials in relation to the furor surrounding a bamboo fence installed illegally off the coast of Tangerang, Banten.
Agrarian planning minister Nusron Wahid said the decision was taken after an internal probe into the improper issuance of permits for coastal land fronting the makeshift barrier, which spanned 30.16 kilometers.
"We decided to fire six [agrarian planning] officials and handed down severe sanctions to two other employees," Nusron said on Thursday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
Most of dismissed employees held key positions at the Tangerang Land Agency at the time the land permits were issued, including the heads of the agency, the land rights and registration division and the survey and mapping division.
Earlier this month, Nusron said the ministry had discovered 266 right to build (HGB) permits and dozens of ownership certificates (SHM) for coastal areas situated across the illegal structure.
The ministry has since revoked at least 50 HGB permits that extended to offshore areas, and plans to revoke more in the coming days.
The majority of the revoked permits were issued to PT Intan Agung Makmur, which held 243 HGB permits for coastal land opposite the fence. Others were issued to PT Cahaya Inti Sentosa for 20 plots of land, while unnamed individuals hold HGB permits for the remainder of the plots under question.
