T

he North Sumatra Police have opened an internal investigation into four officers accused of extorting a vocational school headmaster in Nias Island, continuing a troubling trend of similar scandals in recent months.

North Sumatra Police acting spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yudhi Surya Markus Pinem said that the officers involved, identified only as Comr. RS, Comr. S, Second Insp. M and Brig. B, were all assigned to the corruption sub-directorate at the North Sumatra Police.

"The four officers are being investigated at two separate locations. RS and B are being questioned by the Internal Affairs Division [Propam] at National Police Headquarters in Jakarta, while S and M are undergoing questioning at the North Sumatra Police station in Medan," Yudhi said on Wednesday.

He further stated that investigators are still working to determine the exact amount of money allegedly extorted by the officers, as well as the methods involved.

Earlier, authorities said that RS and B have been detained at National Police Headquarters, while S and M have been temporarily reassigned to the Administrative Services Division at the North Sumatra Police pending the investigation.
