T

he government has pledged to assist the more than 10,000 workers of textile giant PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex) who are without a job after the company ceased operations on Saturday.

The layoffs were conducted in phases after Sritex declared bankruptcy in October of last year. Friday of last week was the final day of the last group of workers.

The layoffs affected the employees of Sritex and its subsidiaries, including PT Bitratex Industries Semarang, PT Sinar Pantja Djaja Semarang and PT Primayudha Mandirijaya Boyolali. All were based in Central Java.

Manpower Minister Yassierli said the government had prepared assistance for the affected workers.

“We’ll ensure that workers receive their wages, severance pay and their rights to social security benefits, including retirement savings [JHT] and job loss insurance [JKP],” the minister said on Friday, as quoted by Antara.

He added that the ministry had coordinated with the Central Java Manpower and Transmigration Agency to map out job opportunities near the locations of Sritex factories and those of its subsidiaries.
