he North Sumatra administration has announced plans to launch an investigation into the hot mudflow eruptions in Roburan Dolok village, Mandailing Natal regency, as concerns grow among residents over the potential for a disaster similar to the infamous Lapindo mud volcano.

North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution stated that a thorough investigation is essential to prevent the hot mudflow eruptions in Roburan Dolok Village from expanding further and to identify their underlying cause.

“We also need to determine whether the nearby geothermal power plant operations are contributing to the eruptions. We’re still closely monitoring the situation,” he said on Wednesday.

Bobby added that his administration has gathered field data from various sources and has been in communication with the Mandailing Natal regent to assess the impact of the mudflow on residents' health and livelihoods.

“As of now, we cannot confirm whether the mudflow eruptions are dangerous, but I want to ensure this incident does not harm the local community,” he emphasized.
