Local fishermen aboard the Duta Lestari 08 spotted the American man, waving and calling for help after drifting overnight from Nusa Lembongan on a Jet Ski that had run out of fuel, and safely delivered him into the hands of SAR personnel near Uluwatu.
n American tourist who went missing on a Jet Ski trip near Nusa Lembongan, southeast of Bali, was spotted by local fishermen on Wednesday and delivered safely to awaiting search and rescue (SAR) personnel.
The head of the Denpasar SAR Agency, Nyoman Sidakarya, said United States national Petter Picetti Falcone had drifted overnight before he was located on June 11 at around 7:30 a.m. near Uluwatu, a village on the southwestern end of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula.
“Falcone was transported to BIMC Hospital in Badung regency for medical treatment,” Nyoman said on Wednesday.
According to the Denpasar SAR chief, the incident began on Tuesday at around 3 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) when Falcone and nine other tourists departed to Nusa Lembongan from Denpasar’s Serangan Port aboard Haruku, a 22-meter charter yacht.
After arriving on Nusa Lembongan, Falcone went jet skiing with an instructor and upon completing the introductory session, he went out again on his own, heading west toward Sanur in South Denpasar, just north of Serangan Port.
When Falcone did not return by that evening, the Haruku’s crew mounted an ultimately unsuccessful search for him and at around 7 p.m., reported to authorities that he was missing.
This prompted a joint search effort using rigid inflatable boats that involved the Denpasar SAR, the Bali Police and a local military unit, accompanied by Falcone’s family, but they were also unable to locate him.
