Pati regent retreats from public view as resignation demands mount

Sudewo was notably absent from the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony at Pati’s town square on Sunday and Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen led the event in his place.

ati Regent Sudewo has scaled back his public appearances following widespread protests last week demanding his resignation and a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) plan to investigate him over alleged involvement in a railway corruption case.

Sudewo was notably absent from the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony at Pati’s town square on Sunday and Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen led the ceremony in his place.

Taj said he stepped in to lead the ceremony after being informed that Sudewo was unwell. 

"My presence here reflects the provincial government's commitment to maintaining stability in Pati, and to encourage local public officials and civil servants to continue providing the best service to the public," Taj said during his speech.

"Public services and development in Pati cannot stop [because of the protests]. Residents are still counting on the government to serve them," he added.
