All bodies of Eastindo helicopter crash victims found, removed to Banjarmasin

The helicopter was carrying two crew members and six passengers, of whom three were foreigners. Everyone on board perished in the crash in South Kalimantan.

A

joint search and rescue (SAR) team has recovered all the bodies of the victims of the Eastindo Air helicopter crash in Emil Baru village, Tanah Bumbu regency, South Kalimantan. There were no survivors from the crash.

The EC BK117-D3 helicopter was carrying eight people on board when it lost contact with air traffic control just eight minutes after taking off from the Gusti Sjamsir Alam Airport in Kotabaru regency, South Kalimantan, at around 8:46 a.m. on Monday.

The aircraft was en route to Tjilik Riwut Airport in Palangkaraya, the provincial capital of Central Kalimantan.

“All bodies have been recovered from the helicopter crash site this morning,” said Cdre. Yudhi Bramantyo of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) at the evacuation command post in Emil Baru village on Thursday afternoon.

Seven bodies were found and recovered on Thursday morning. One body was found on Wednesday afternoon at 3:53 local time (2:53 Jakarta time) about 100 meters from the helicopter’s wreckage.

The weather was clear with clouds on Wednesday, allowing the deployment of five helicopters, two from Eastindo, one each from the National Police’s Air and Water Police Corps, the Air Force and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
