View all search resultsCustoms officers intercepted a ship carrying 20 tonnes of illegal tin ore packed in 400 sacks.
he Customs and Excise Office in Batam, Riau Islands, prevented the smuggling of 20 tonnes of tin ore in the Natuna Sea on Aug. 28, following information that the MV Maju Berkembang was carrying the ore without proper documentation.
Batam Customs and Excise Office head Zaky Firmansyah said in a press release on Monday that the operation began in the early hours of Aug. 28.
Zaky said that the Customs 2007 patrol boat moved toward the shipping lane and intercepted the suspect vessel.

Customs officers found around 20 tonnes of unlicensed tin ore packed in 400 sacks when the boat was taken to the Customs Pier in Tanjung Uncang, Batam.
Customs officers seized the ore and detained the captain and five crew for further investigation.
The load was reportedly destined for Thailand without following legal export procedure, violating Law No. 17/2006.
