T

he Surakarta administration in Central Java has launched a Roblox-based extracurricular program for junior high school students, despite growing concerns over the game’s safety and central government efforts to ban the platform.

Around 500 students from various schools have joined the program, which is being held at Solo Technopark, the Surakarta’s technology and innovation center.

The program is scheduled three times a week, with each two-hour session covering topics such as online gaming ethics, protecting oneself from potential risks, teamwork in virtual environments and basic skills in creating in-game maps.

To ensure a safe and structured environment, the sessions are supervised by three mentors and five assistants.

Solo Technopark head Yudi Chayantoro said the program aimed to enhance students’ creativity.

Roblox is an open-source platform, so anyone can play and create their own games. This can spark creativity among players and serve as a tool for digital education,” Yudi said on Wednesday, according to Antara.
