ealth authorities have launched an epidemiological investigation after a student at an Islamic boarding school in Meranti Islands regency, Riau, died from a suspected mpox infection, while another student was hospitalized with similar symptoms.
Ade Suhartian, acting head of the Meranti Islands Health Agency, said the initial investigation had found no additional suspected cases so far, but he urged residents to remain vigilant against the viral disease.
"We urge the public to stay calm yet vigilant. Maintain personal and environmental hygiene, exercise regularly, get enough sleep and eat a balanced, nutritious diet,” he said on Sunday, as quoted by national radio station RRI.

Ade said he had deployed a team to the boarding school to conduct disinfection, and they had provided vitamins and hand sanitizers to the students.
Ade also ordered all local health centers and hospitals to enhance active surveillance and remain alert for patients showing signs of mpox, including acute severe rashes, fever and swollen lymph nodes.
“Prompt reporting of suspected cases to the health agency is critical to controlling the spread and ensuring timely treatment,” he added.
