orth Sumatra Police have arrested eight people in Medan City suspected of trafficking babies to other provinces, having sold nine babies aged between the ages of three days to a month with a price between Rp 10 million (US$597) and Rp 15 million.
Most of the suspects are woman, identified as BDS, SRR, AD, SS, MS, PT and MM. There is only one male suspect in the ring, identified as JES.
North Sumatra Police’ General Crimes Director (Reskrimum) Sr. Comr. Ricko Taruna Mauruh said the inter-provincial baby trafficking ring has operated since 2023. He said the syndicate applied outright sale, meaning there was no contact between the seller and the buyer after the baby was handed over to the buyer.

“The last baby being trafficked was a three-day male. He was being sold in an outright sale transaction,” he told a press conference on Monday at the North Sumatra Police headquarters.
Ricko said the baby trafficking process had layers of involvement.
Suspect DBS, who is the baby's mother, contacted SS who then called AD to pick the baby and handed the baby to MS.
