he Bali Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) has questioned the issuance of 106 land ownership certificates (SHM) for plots located in mangrove protected forest or the Ngurah Rai Forest Park (Tahura) in southern Bali.
Head of the DPRD’s special committee on spatial planning, assets and permits, Mada Suparta, revealed the finding during a meeting with the National Land Agency (BPN) Bali Regional Office, the Bali Penida River Basin Agency (BWS), Tahura and other provincial agencies.
“The suspicion that land mafia are targeting lands near mangrove forest and Tahura are clearly seen. 106 certificates were issued,” Suparta said in a written statement on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
“This is a matter of Bali’s future. It is an extraordinary crime threatening Bali.”
Suparta said many land syndicates were eyeing the Tahura because it was strategically located and of high value. He estimated the plots along Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai had been worth billions of rupiah.
“This is already like a syndicate, involving many parties including government officials,” said Suparta, who is also the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction at Bali DPRD.
“The violations will continue if there is no deterrence by sending them to jail.”
