T

he Rote Ndao Police in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) detained seven Chinese nationals on board a suspicious vessel that drifted into the waters off Ndana Island in Ndao regency on Sunday. Also detained were three Indonesian crew members from Southeast Sulawesi.

Suspicions were raised when a group of fishermen who were fishing off Ndana Island saw an unidentified white vessel idling nearby, kompas.com reported.

One of the fishermen, Muhidin, reported the sighting to Brig. Edy Suryadi, of the police security and public order non-commissioned officers (Bhabinkamtibmas) unit in Dalek Esa village. Edy then relayed the report to Rote Ndao Police.

Under supervision by police officers, local crewmen escorted the boat to Oebou Port in Southwest Rote district.

Upon arrival in the port at 5 p.m. local time (4 p.m. Jakarta time), Southwest Rote Police chief Second. Insp. Godfried and other police officers detained the ship’s passengers and crew.

The crewmembers were identified as Aco, Jusman and Indra who are all from Pasipadang village, Maginti district, West Muna regency in Southeast Sulawesi.
