he North Sumatra Regional Employee Agency (BKD) revealed that the amount of online gambling involving 1,037 civil servants in the provincial administration has reached more than Rp 2.1 billion (US$126,132).
BKD head Sutan Tolang Lubis said that the average transaction at online gambling sites was not more than Rp 10 million.
“The total transaction was Rp 2,188,550,182. The largest transactions were done by 26 civil servants with above Rp 10 million,” Tolang said on Friday at the North Sumatra governor’s office.
He added that the data was acquired from the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reports Center (PPATK).
Tolang said all employees involved in online gambling had been given light punishment, without describing what kind of punishments had been given to the civil servants.
He said the light discipline punishment was early coaching for civil servants so that they would realize their mistakes.
Sutan emphasized that the civil servants would get heavier punishment if they were found to have played online gambling again.
