olice have arrested a North Sumatra resident for allegedly causing a forest fire in Rokan Hilir regency in Riau. The forest fire had been detected through the Lancang Kuning hotspot detection app since at about 3 p.m. on Oct. 30.
Rokan Hilir Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Isa Imam Syahroni said the suspect, Moslem Tamba alias Rio, had been detained, and one black bucket, three burnt palm oil fronds, a cigarette stub and a pack of cigarettes were taken as evidence.
“One day after the Lancang Kuning app showed the presence of a hotspot, a joint team from Kubu, Bagan Sinembah and Tanah Putih Police sub-precincts went to the location with residents to extinguish the fire and prevent its spread,” he said on Monday.
“The team also conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire.”

After questioning several witnesses, the fire had been revealed to be the result of Rio's negligence.
“He admitted to having discarded a cigarette stub haphazardly, causing the fire,” he said.
