earch and rescue (SAR) workers found 43 victims of a landslide in West Bandung regency, West Java, on Wednesday, including four soldiers from the Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps.
“Based on reports from the regional administration, the landslide buried 34 houses with an estimated 133 villagers being affected,” National SAR Agency (Basarnas) chief Air Marshal M. Syafi’i told a House of Representatives’ Commission V meeting on Wednesday, detik.com reported.
“At that time, it was reported there were 23 survivors.”
However, Syafi’i said that with follow up registration and coordination process with regional administration, the number of affected houses was 35 as of Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. affecting 155 villagers with 75 survivors.
“The joint SAR team has evacuated 43 body bags and we handed over [to the local authorities],” he said.
“This morning, we also received information that the disaster victim identification (DVI) has identified 27 victims, which had been handed over to their families.”
