P

rominent comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono underwent a customary tribunal in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, following a stand-up performance that drew complaints from members of the local indigenous community.

The tribunal was held on Tuesday and attended by representatives of 32 traditional elders from Tana Toraja, along with members of the indigenous community. Seven customary judges presided over the proceedings, which were facilitated by the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN).

Daud Pangarungan, a traditional leader in Tana Toraja, said the panel decided Pandji would provide one pig and five chickens to the community as part of a “restorative obligation”.

“The restorative obligation is intended to repair relationships between people, with nature, with ancestors and with the Creator, so that life can return to harmony and bring goodness to all,” Daud said on Wednesday.

He emphasized that Torajan customary law focuses on restoration rather than punishment.

“Toraja customary law is about restoration. What is imposed is not a fine, but a means of restoring balance,” he said.
