Karo prosecutors relieved of duty over handling of videographer case

he Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has relieved two senior prosecutors in Karo regency, North Sumatra, of their positions after internal investigations into their handling of the case involving videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu, who was accused of marking up invoices for producing promotional videos.

Karo Prosecutor’s Office head Danke Rajagukguk and special crimes section head Reinhard Harve Sembiring were let go from their positions after Medan Corruption Court acquitted Amsal of all corruption charges.

Dante has been replaced by Edmond Novvery Purba, who is currently the chief prosecutor in South Nias while Rienhard’s position is held concurrently by the intelligence section head.

North Sumatra Prosecutor’s Office information section head Rizaldi said the dismissals were issued in an AGO decree dated April 13.

“The replacement of Danke and Reinhard is related to the handling of Amsal’s case,” he told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

“These are disciplinary sanctions for them,”

He said there was no additional decree from the AGO on Danke’s next job. However, there was information that he would be in a so-called diagonal rotation, which means he will be given a functional position and not a structural one.
