kat Indonesia co-founder and designer Didiet Maulana is recognized as a specialist in traditional fabrics. Following his passion, Didiet also offers customized traditional wedding attire through his brand SVARNA.

During the recent Bridestory Fair at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel in South Jakarta, he told The Jakarta Post the three essential things to do when preparing traditional wedding attire.

Do your research

Didiet said one can’t play around with tradition or culture. As for fashion design, it is important to do some research prior to designing a traditional wedding gown. “When it comes to tradition or culture, there are many guidelines that can’t be eliminated,” said Didiet, adding it was the designer's job to guide the clients.

Do not rush

In his career as a fashion designer, Didiet has produced more than a dozen traditional wedding gowns. Being the perfectionist that he is, he spent up to 12,000 hours making a Mandailing-inspired wedding outfit. With this in mind, Didiet says it is important not to rush things. (kes)
