Titiek Puspa turned 80 on Wednesday and to coincide with her birthday, the legendary singer was honored with three awards from the music industry.
The first came from the Recording Industry Association (ASIRI), which awarded Double Platinum to the Musica Studios-produced Duta Cinta & Titiek Puspa for having sold 150,000 albums via CD, VCD, DVD and various online platforms.
The association also gave Titiek the Special Award for her lifetime dedication to the music industry, which spans 63 years. Musica Studios, meanwhile, honored the singer for being an inspiration, as well as her dedication to children's music.
Receiving the awards in Jakarta, Titiek expressed her gratitude for the recognition.
"I am actually someone who doesn't want to be fussed over, but I am touched by this," Titiek told kompas.com.
She urged the public to continue to be creative in a positive way.
"My message is one, don't get in trouble with the law. Believe that you all have strength, imagination, energy, just gather it and knit it together with doing good deeds so that you can give back to the country," Titiek said. (liz/kes)
