ndonesian stand-up comedian and director Ernest Prakasa is set to helm Milly & Mamet, a romantic comedy spin-off of Ada Apa dengan Cinta? (What’s up with Cinta?, also known as AADC).

The film will also be Ernest’s first collaboration with producer Mira Lesmana, who created AADC with director Riri Riza.

“I thought, ‘There are actually many stories that can be told from the characters in AADC’,” Mira said to kompas.com. “I already had Milly & Mamet in my mind, but at that time I didn’t know who the director would be.”

Mira had seen Ernest’s work as a director from his previous films, such as Ngenest and Cek Toko Sebelah (Check the Store Next Door). “I thought, ‘This guy would be suitable for the film.’ After discussing it with Riri, both of us agreed that Ernest was the person for the project,” Mira said.

Meanwhile, Ernest said he felt honored to be appointed as the director. “But this is also a burden [for me]. I’ll be adapting something that is widely known,” Ernest said. “While I usually make everything from scratch, this time the characters have already existed and people are familiar with them. This is a new thing for me.”

Using "This is not a story of Cinta & Rangga" as its tagline, Milly & Mamet will narrate the life of Milly (Sissy Prescillia) and Mamet (Dennis Adhiswara) as a married couple.

The film will be screened in December this year. (wir/wng)
