To celebrate its 25th anniversary, punk rock band NTRL has announced that its new album, XXV, will be released on May 25.

Of the 26 songs on the album, seven are new, while 19 tracks are songs from past albums with new arrangements, as reported by kompas.com

The new songs on the album are meant as NTRL’s interpretation of current rock music, with the help of additional synthesizer player Aria Prayogi bringing 1980s electronic touches to songs like “Mimpi” and “Getir”.

Members Bagus (vocal/bass), Coki (guitar) and Eno (drum) said they used the "wall of sound" technique with a semi-live recording method to make the album.

Recorded at Shoemaker studio in Jakarta in 2017, the album will be released by NTRL Records, a record label founded by the band.

The first single from XXV is “Zero Toleransi”. Bagus, who wrote the lyrics, said he wanted to capture the decline of humanity. “People with zero tolerance who act based on their lusts. Those with power are allowed to do whatever they want,” he added.

Over the years, NTRL has released 14 albums. Formerly called Netral, the band has undergone member changes with Bagus remaining the sole original member. Eno replaced former drummer Bimo in 1999, while Coki joined in 2003.

In 2015, the band officially changed its name to NTRL after an alleged dispute between the band and Bimo, who had legally trademarked the band’s name (Netral) under his name. (wng)
