workshop on wayang suket (grass puppets) craftsmanship is being offered for free to elementary and middle school students in Surakarta, Central Java, Antara has reported.
Creator Yhoga Riszki initially crafted wayang suket for souvenirs, but then he chose to educate younger generations through workshops and performances.
"I conduct workshops at schools and usually perform legendary folktales for students, such as Malin Kundang, Timun Mas and Roro Jonggrang. Most students show great interest in the plays,” said Yhoga.

Along with the Wayang Suket Indonesia community, Yhoga also takes part in performances across Central and East Java in a bid to preserve the culture of wayang suket.
“My community and I are committed to continuously preserving Indonesia’s wayang suket. It is interesting and has become a challenge for myself, as I love Indonesian culture,” he said.
The community, along with Krisztina Bogo, a Hungarian artist who studied Javanese culture, is responsible for the visual and musical aspects of each wayang suket performance. (anm/wng)
