espite the 2018 Asian Games ending on Sept. 2, the official merchandise will be available for purchase at kiosks across Jakarta until the end of the month, tempo.co reported.

The Super Store in the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Central Jakarta, located near Gate 5 and the Bhin Bhin Zone, will remain open until Sunday.

Afterward, people will still be able to pick up dolls, keychains, pencils and pens, lanyards, stickers, tumblers, T-shirts and books in malls such as fX Sudirman, Plaza Indonesia, Pacific Place and Senayan City in Central Jakarta, Gandaria City, Kota Kasablanka, and Pondok Indah Mall in South Jakarta, Central Park and Puri Indah Mall in West Jakarta, as well as Bintaro Xchange in South Tangerang.

The merchandise is also available in Alfamart minimarkets and on the official 2018 Asian Games website.

Mochtar Sarman, head of souvenir department of the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC), said he expected demand for the official merchandise to remain high, even after the event had ended.

“The most popular merchandise are the Asian Games mascot dolls. We sell them for Rp 79,000 (US$5.3) to Rp 387,000 for one set comprising three dolls,” he said.

The mascots, Bhin Bhin, Kaka and Atung, represent the country’s national motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) and the country’s rare and endangered species. For instance, Bhin Bhin is a bird of paradise from eastern Indonesia, Atung is a Bawean deer found on Bawean Island in Gresik regency, East Java, and Kaka is a one-horned Javan rhinoceros from Java.

Along with the public’s demand, Mochtar said athletes who competed in the games also shared the enthusiasm, as the souvenir kiosk in the athlete’s village in Kemayoran had run out of merchandise. (wng)
