Bangka Belitung stilt houses in spotlight at UI architecture exhibition

The exhibition took place at UI’s School of Engineering in Depok, West Java, on Nov. 12 to 15 and will continue at UI's Central Library on Nov. 16 to 17. A public lecture will also be held on Nov. 17.

n architecture exhibition featuring the documentation of traditional Malay rumah panggung kayu (wooden stilt houses) in Muntok city in West Bangka regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, is being held at the University of Indonesia (UI).

The exhibition took place at UI’s School of Engineering in Depok, West Java, on Nov. 12 to 15 and will continue at UI's Central Library on Nov. 16 to 17. A public lecture will also be held on Nov. 17.

Held by a research team from the architecture department of UI’s School of Engineering, the Bangka Vernadoc and A Tectonic Exploration exhibition was curated by Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, who also acts as chairman of all the event's activities.

The event consists of two parts, namely the zone of “presentation of Malay rumah panggung architecture drawn by the Vernadoc method” and the “architecture through the tectonic approach” review zone.

The exhibition aims to build awareness on the local wisdom of traditional architecture’s importance. It is also a means of education and promotion of rumah panggung’scultural richness. (iru/kes)
