bsolut Vodka, a vodka brand produced near Åhus in Southern Sweden, has initiated an environmentally friendly bar initiative called The Green Hustle.
Aiming to reduce bar waste, The Green Hustle is the brainchild of former bartender and Absolut Vodkaglobal marketing manager on trade Bex Almqvist, who teamed up with antiwaste bartending duo Trashtiki and Hampus Thunholm from Sweden’s renowned Fäviken restaurant.
According to a press release received by The Jakarta Post, the initiative aims to inspire bartenders to be more sustainable by teaching simple "hustles" that they can instigate. These hustles include turning disregarded fruit into stock, ditching plastics and refreezing melted ice.
While very few customers associate bars with sustainability, Almqvist thinks the world would soon see the awakening of a more responsible cocktail-era.
“And reducing waste is pretty simple […] We hope, with the Green Hustle, to make it less daunting and more accessible for everyone. The smallest act can make a big impact and you can have fun and be inventive along the way,” Almqvist is quoted as saying.

The seven bars already practicing the initiative are Dandelyan and Cub in London, Broken Shaker in Miami and Honeycut in Los Angeles, the United States, Native in Singapore, Svartklubb by Fäviken in Åre, Sweden, and TrashTiki, a pop-up bar.
Bar waste is a serious global problem. The bars in London alone reportedly produce 800,000 tons of waste every year, more than the combined weight of the city's total population. (iru/mut)
