Miss Universe is an annual international beauty pageant where participants from various countries contest their beauty, wits and good manners.

The contest lasts for two weeks in December, allowing time for rehearsals, appearances and preliminary competition.

Sonia was set to represent Indonesia after winning the regional pageant, Putri Indonesia 2018. She will leave for Bangkok on Nov. 28, while the final competition will be held on Dec. 17.

According to Antara, she will showcase attire by Indonesian designers Ghea Panggabean, ANAZ, Tommy Pancamurti, Anne Avantie and Dynand Fariz.

ANAZ designed the main dress, a combination of Palembang’s songket fabric with pearls and   peafowl-shaped embroidery. Meanwhile, Dynand designed the national costume, a tricolor dress inspired by Papua’s bird of paradise.

Indonesia’s Elvira Devinamira won the Best National Costume award at Miss Universe 2014 in Florida, United States. Two years later, Kezia Warouw placed in the top 13, the highest ever for Indonesia. (iru/kes)
