t’s one step closer to the full revelation of Disney’s Aladdin, slated to launch in May, as Entertainment Weekly published first-look photos of the upcoming live-action remake of the 1992 animated classic.
Aladdin and Jasmine, played by Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, appears on the magazine cover, out on Wednesday, together with Will Smith, who plays Genie. The trio’s outfits look similar to the characters’ iconic looks, but many fans aren't crazy about the ensembles.

Comments on Instagram and Twitter are questioning why Genie is not blue, one of them posting a GIF video depicting a fairy from Sleeping Beauty casting a spell to turn her dress color from red to blue.

Aware of the criticism, Smith posted the magazine cover graced with the first-look photo, writing in the caption that he is going to be blue.
“This is how the Genie is in Human/Disguise Form. My character will be CGI most of the movie,” wrote Smith.
Other remarks were made about Aladdin’s costume, which includes a striped shirt underneath his vest, unlike the cartoon version where the penniless market boy is clad in a vest and a pair of bloomers pants.

Regardless of costume details, the overall look seemed to disappoint fans, some of them saying that the ensembles looked as if they had been bought from party supply store Party City.

The criticism is, however, balanced with positive and encouraging thoughts, as seen in the comments section of this post by Entertainment Weekly. (mut)
