ood news arrived near the end of the year from two Indonesian fashion designers, Mety Choa and Monica Ivena, whose designs were being worn by top celebrities Gwen Stefani and Khloé Kardashian.

The news places them among Indonesian designers whose creations have won the hearts of world’s top celebrities.

In May this year, Indonesian designer Rinaldy A. Yunardi’s gold crown and accessories were worn by Madonna at the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and in June the designer’s earrings were worn by Beyonce in her Apes**t music video.

Indonesian designer Tex Saverio has also created pieces for singer Lady Gaga and actress Jennifer Lawrence.

Singer Gwen Stefani was seen wearing Mety’s Maison Met’s Calla glitter dress from the latest S/S2018 Arcadia collection at the Home 4 Holidays 20th Anniversary special hosted by LL Cool J that aired on CBS TV on Dec. 21.

Mety, who launched her fashion career in 2004 after completing courses at Raffles Le Salle Singapore, set up her luxury gown business in 2014 and later renamed her atelier the Maison Met in 2017 with a nod to her brief period of study in Paris.

Maison Met, which specializes in custom-made wedding dresses, evening gowns and cocktail dresses, each uniquely crafted and renowned for its effortless feminine and sophisticated designs, officially debuted at the 25th Couture Fashion Week New York in 2017.

Mety’s creations were previously spotted on red carpets on other international celebrities, from Kat Graham to Gigi Hadid. She has also won over clients from as far away as Japan, Singapore, England and the United States with her designs.

Mety told The Jakarta Post in a statement that it took her about two months to create the design for Stefani. “I feel awesome and grateful being chosen to dress Gwen Stefani because she is a talented singer and so beautiful,” Mety said.

Monica, who set up her eponymous line, Monica Ivena, at the end of 2011 after graduating from the LPTB Susan Budihardjo Fashion School in Jakarta, launched her first official bridal and evening dress collection, L’Heritier, in 2015. It was soon followed by her Wonderland evening and cocktail collection in 2016 and Eisberg last year.

Her latest collection, Starbie, was presented during Star Fashion Week in Shanghai, China, in June this year.

In most of her designs, Monica’s signature feminine look is fluidly fused with a touch of whimsy. The designer is known for her preference for working with Chantilly lace, shantung and tulle, often embellishing her creations with beautiful intricate embroideries.

Monica’s designs have also been worn by other international celebrities like Tracee Ellis Ross, Amei, Clara Lee and Guan Xiaotong, who have worn her creations on and off the red carpet.

Monica said she was crying with happiness when her piece, which took her about 10 days to create, was worn by Kardashian. “God is very kind to me this Christmas, giving me such a huge gift,” she said.
