A new animation studio in Indonesia was officially launched on Friday.

The studio, SHOH Entertainment in Palmerah subdistrict, South Jakarta, was founded by animator Seung-Hyun Oh who also founded Singapore-based SHOH Enterprise PTE. LTD.

Oh is best known for his works on a number of animated series, including Avatar: The Last Airbender, TRON: Uprising, Kiko and Tinkerbell and The Legend of the Never Beast, reported kompas.com.

“The studio offers various services from concept to end product; from 2D and 3D animation, character development and visual effects to production, direction and post-production,” Oh said, adding that he planned to hire around 500 people.

He aims to make the studio an influential animation company that shapes the global animation industry and plans to collaborate with international clients such as Warner Bros, Nickelodeon and Disney.

Furthermore, SHOH Entertainment Studio will be involved in eight TV series and two animation films over the next three years.

“We would like to work on more projects, including international ones, and expand our market by launching our own distribution network,” Oh said, adding that he wanted to provide child-friendly content to the Indonesian market.

According to tribunnews.com, Baek-Dong Jin is the vice president of production and Han-Jung Hun is the studio’s operational head.

Studio SHOH Entertainment also launched the Animation Institute on the same day. Supported by Lenovo, the institute is set to produce education-entertainment content and curriculum.

“We would like to be part of educating the younger generation in Indonesia,” Oh said. (wir/kes)
