In celebration of Rich Brian’s newly released The Sailor, music streaming giant Spotify has announced The Sailor Experience — an exhibition in Jakarta showcasing the personal history behind the rising rap star’s latest studio album.
Set to be held at the Gudang Gambar Art Warehouse in Cilandak, South Jakarta, from Aug. 8 to 10, the free exhibition will give fans an opportunity to explore the stories and memories underpinning the songs on The Sailor.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will be treated to a visual gallery where every track on the new album comes to life with exclusive voice notes from the Jakarta-born rapper himself.
Ardent fans will not want to miss out on a short documentary that features never-before-seen behind-the-scenes clips of Rich Brian working in his studio, filming his music videos and during performances.

Additionally, the exhibition will also premiere Rich Brian’s cinematic debut in the narrative short Rich Brian Is The Sailor, which will be presented with an exclusive commentary track from director Sing J Lee. The short film is poised to immerse fans in Rich Brian’s Indonesian upbringing and the personal baggage that ultimately led to the vulnerability of his newest album.
“The Sailor Experience by Spotify is the physical manifestation of my new album, which tells the story of myself as an explorer of my own past life experiences. I’d like to share this experience with my fans, who I hope will be inspired to stay motivated and persistent,” Rich Brian said in a statement.
In The Sailor, Rich Brian explores the notion of identity as a young member of the Southeast Asian diaspora amid constant shifts in the contemporary cultural landscape. The album represents a stylistic departure from the artist’s previous works as he experiments with softer melodies.
Rich Brian rose to prominence for his viral debut single "Dat $tick", which was released in February 2016. His latest album, The Sailor, was released on Jul. 26. (rfa/asw)
