n ongoing exhibition at the National Gallery of Indonesia is giving a spotlight to the artistic talents of today’s generation of Indonesian children.
The Indonesian Children Visual Art Festival is part of the gallery’s celebration of the annual National Children’s Day, which falls on July 23.
For one full month, from July 23 to Aug. 23, the gallery is exhibiting 155 painting, digital, interactive, photo and batik artworks under the theme “Main” (Play), a word that encourages people to recall moments of happiness from their childhoods.
Inside the gallery, visitors can find artworks donated by various art and cultural institutions, such as the Basoeki Abdullah Museum, The Japan Foundation, the Goethe-Institut, Ars86care, Bali Estetik Art (beArt) & Management, Ganara Art, Roving Lab and many more.
The highlight of the exhibition, however, are the beautiful works of art made by children from all over Indonesia.
The gallery has hand-picked 74 art pieces from 376 submissions from an open-call contest. In addition, 47 artworks have been selected from the gallery’s annual children’s painting competition, which it has held since 2009.
