apanese global apparel retailer Uniqlo has announced a plan to open new stores in Riau Island’s Batam as well as Jakarta and Bekasi in West Java.

Slated for inauguration in September, the new openings will begin with Batam, marking the brand’s first presence in the city.

Naoki Kamogawa, president director of PT Fast Retailing Indonesia (Uniqlo Indonesia), said in a statement that the new store in Batam was expected to meet demand of the city’s residents who have to travel outside Batam to get the latest Uniqlo collections.

Fashion enthusiasts in Batam will soon be able to visit the Uniqlo store at Grand Batam mall in Penuin, Lubuk Baja district.

Following the store opening in Batam, Jakarta and Bekasi will welcome new Uniqlo stores.

The new opening in Jakarta will be at Mall of Indonesia in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, while the one in Bekasi will be at Grand Galaxy Park.

“The addition of stores in Jakarta and Bekasi will further strengthen our presence in providing our LifeWear products and services in these cities,” said Kamogawa.

With the three new stores, Uniqlo Indonesia will have a total of 29 stores in nine cities across the archipelago. (ran/mut)
