Production company Gempita Tjipta Perkasa released the trailer for Naga Bonar Reborn on Tuesday.

Naga Bonar Reborn is a remake of the 1987 comedy Nagabonar written by Asrul Sani. The original film follows a self-proclaimed general living in North Sumatra.

Producer Gusti Randa said during a press conference that Naga Bonar Reborn had a similar premise, but that the plot was more complete than the previous movies.

Slated to premiere in October, Naga Bonar Reborn follows the story of Naga Bonar (Gading Marten) during the Dutch colonial era. In the trailer, Naga Bonar is seen fighting in a war for Indonesia.

The trailer also shows a romance between Naga Bonar and Kirana (Citra Kirana).

In addition to Gading and Citra, the film also features veteran actors Roy Marten and Ray Sahetapy as well as Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani.

Gading, who plays Naga Bonar, said he sought to depict his own version of the character.

“This is our version of Naga Bonar in 2019,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mutiara Sani, the wife of Asrul Sani, praised the film, saying that while the original Nagabonar was great for that era, Naga Bonar Reborn would appeal to millennials. (mut)
