mong the few solar eclipses taking place in 2019, the final one will be visible on Thursday. People in certain parts of Indonesia, such as Padang Sidempuan in North Sumatra and Singkawang, West Kalimantan, will be able to see the annular solar eclipse. However, Jakartans will only be able to see a partial solar eclipse.

Jakartans wishing to witness the eclipse could go to Jakarta Planetarium and Observatory in Taman Ismail Marzuki arts and culture center, Central Jakarta, according to kompas.com.

The planetarium will provide solar eclipse glasses for visitors who have registered online. But those who haven’t registered can still do so on the spot, on Thursday from 7 a.m., while the event will run until 4 p.m.

Visitors can also observe the solar eclipse using 10 telescopes, under the guidance of mentors from the planetarium and astronomy community.

The solar eclipse observation is free of charge. However, the planetarium had expressed the hope that the rain will not pour during the appearance of the eclipse, which is between 10:43 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. according to gerhanaindonesia.id.

During that time, Jakarta is said to witness about 72 percent of the eclipse. (mut)
