Timothée Chalamet is in talks to play iconic musician Bob Dylan in upcoming James Mangold film Going Electric.
merican director James Mangold is set to helm an upcoming Bob Dylan biopic currently titled Going Electric, Hollywood news outlet Deadline reported.
The iconic musician will be played by actor Timothée Chalamet, who is reportedly in talks with Fox Searchlight studio.
Going Electric reportedly will center on the musician’s controversial genre transition from folk to rock & roll. Dylan will also be actively involved in the film production as executive producer.
It will be Mangold’s second film about an iconic musician after 2005’s Walk the Line about Johnny Cash and June Carter.
The film has also obtained the rights to the book Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald and Dylan’s track lists.

While many appreciated Dylan’s transition to rock & roll, the seminal folk music figure was labeled a "traitor" by purists back in the days when he traded his acoustic guitar for an amp and an electric guitar, first debuting his new genre at Newport Folk Festival on July 25, 1965. The film will also portray his interactions with fellow 1960s legends such as Joan Baez and Pete Seeger.
Chalamet shot to fame as the lovelorn Elio in Call Me By Your Name, for which he gained an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in 2018.
Chalamet’s latest portrayal of Laurie in the recent film Little Women earned him positive reviews.
His upcoming projects include Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of science fiction novel Dune, Wes Anderson’s drama The French Dispatch and Amy Herzog’s play 4000 Miles in the West End theater in London. (vel/wng)
