inema XXI announced on March 26 that it has temporarily suspended operations of all of its cinemas in 52 Indonesian cities until further notice to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Following the announcement, Cinema XXI submitted a post on social media saying that customer service of its online ticket platform M-Tix was temporarily inactive.

Dewinta Hutagaol, head of corporate communications and brand management of Cinema XXI, said in a statement that the decision was made based on the COVID-19 situation and in support of the government’s physical distancing instruction.

“While our theaters are temporarily closed, we will keep thoroughly disinfecting the cinemas,” Dewinta said, adding that Cinema XXI also urged its staff to stay at home.

On March 21, Cinema XXI announced that its theaters in Jakarta would be closed until April 5. The decision was in line with the Jakarta’s administration declaration of emergency status.

The cinema began regularly spraying disinfectants at all 218 of its cinemas in the country in late January.

Aside from Cinema XXI, CGV Cinemas is also halting the operations of all of its theaters in Indonesia until further notice.

CGV Cinemas currently has 68 theaters in 16 provinces across the country.

Those who already purchased tickets via the company's website or mobile app and wish to refund can contact the CGV call center at +6221-2920-0100 or send an e-mail to callcenter@cgv.id. Meanwhile, the refund process for tickets that were bought via CGV Cinemas ticketing partners, such as Traveloka, Bookmyshow and TIX ID, will be conducted by the respective channels. (wir/wng)
