Prominent singer-songwriter Glenn Fredly died at the age of 44 at Setia Mitra Hospital in South Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
His close friend and fellow musician Tompi confirmed the news.
“Our dear brother Glenn Fredly passed away this evening. Please forgive all of his mistakes," he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Other public figures, such as singer Vidi Aldiano and comedian and filmmaker Ernest Prakarsa, extended their condolences for the death of the popular musician on their respective social media accounts.

"Rest in love, dear @GlennFredly. Thanks for all of your work, which has apparently helped me in my career. Gone too soon," Vidi Aldiano tweeted.
Ernest said on his Twitter account @ernestprakarsa that he and Glenn had been planning to record a new collaboration for next year. "You're gone too soon, bro," he said.

Born in Jakarta in 1975, Glenn displayed a talent for music from a young age. He won several singing competitions during his elementary school years.
In 1995, he won first prize in a singing contest organized by a local TV station and was a finalist in the Asian Song Festival the following year. Five years later, he won third prize and was awarded the 'Best of the Best Singer' prize in the Asia Dauzy International Song Festival in Russia.
Glenn released dozens of albums as a solo artist. Recently, he had also been producing and acting in feature films.
Glenn was active in social causes and had spoken out against human rights abuses.
