T

he second edition of the Art Moments Jakarta exhibition has been postponed until 2021 due to the uncertainties of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

In a statement received by The Jakarta Post from the fair's director Leo Silitonga on Friday, it is said the decision to postpone the event until next year was made based on health and safety concerns.

“If we were to hold Art Moments Jakarta 2020 from July 29 to August 1, 2020, or at any other time in 2020, all parties involved would be exposed to major risks."

These risks include both health risks and immigration concerns, while organizers may not even be able to obtain a permit to hold an indoor public event.

The event has been rescheduled to June 3 to 6, 2021.

“This is a difficult time for many and no one is being spared, but let us keep our hopes high and pray that we will eventually get through this difficult time together. We appreciate all your support, will keep you updated, and look forward to Art Moments Jakarta 2021."

In February, the organizers of Art Moments Jakarta were still optimistic the event could be held in 2020. Originally slated to run from April 17 to 19 at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City, the organizers hoped to attract 20,000 attendees over the course of the three-day fair, with at least 50 confirmed art galleries participating.

Founded by Leo Silitonga in 2019, the organizers of Art Moments Jakarta aim to make the event a key part of the region’s cultural calendar by shining a spotlight on Southeast Asian art and artists. (ste)
