Popular K-pop group BLACKPINK launched its official Twitter account on Friday.

Their first tweet,  “Hello Twitter” with a photo of the four-piece group, was retweeted over 266,000 times and got over 600,000 likes.

On the same day, the group released its long-anticipated new single, “How You Like That”, following its latest EP, which was released in April 2019, Kill This Love. As of the time of writing, the song’s music video has been viewed more than 80 million times.

On June 30, Twitter will host BLACKPINK Live Comeback Party as a #TwitterBlueroom Q&A session. Fans can watch the session live on BLACKPINK’s official Twitter account and interact with the group directly using the hashtags #Ask_BLACKPINK and #TwitterBlueroom. A live chat room will also allow fans to enjoy similar features.

Additionally, BLACKPINK’s special custom emojis drawn by the members themselves are available on Twitter until Aug. 31. Fans can use the emojis to show support by adding a hashtag to the member’s name.

YeonJeong Kim, head of the global Kpop and K-content partnerships at Twitter, said, "BLACKPINK LIVE Comeback Party on #TwitterBlueroom and special custom emojis will help K-pop fans interact with BLACKPINK members directly in real time through improved live experience and innovative formats."

Since its debut in 2016, BLACKPINK has had a world tour, eight singles and three EPs, but no full-length studio album as of yet, to the frustration of fans.

In April, the fans received a surprise when Lady Gaga announced that her new album, Chromatica, would contain a collaboration with BLACKPINK titled “Sour Candy”.

With the release of the new single on Friday, members of BLACKPINK said they wanted to spread positive energy and a hopeful message.

Member Jennie said the group wanted to try new and various genres for the full-length studio album, as hinted by “How You Like That”.

BLACKPINK appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for the first live performance of the song on Saturday.

YG Entertainment said BLACKPINK would release another single before its first full-length album came out in September, with solo projects in the works for later this year. (wng)
