‘Sherina’s Adventure’ to get sequel, animation
The iconic family musical film Petualangan Sherina (Sherina’s Adventure) will return next year with new treatment and vigor.

owerhouse Miles Films announced on Friday a plan to produce a sequel to its blockbuster film Petualangan Sherina (Sherina’s Adventure), two decades after its release.
There is no further information about the new plot, but music artists Sherina Munaf and Derby Romero will reprise their roles as Sherina and Sadam in the sequel, which will hit theaters next year.
“We initially planned to start shooting in April and release it by the end of this year, but we postponed it due to the pandemic,” said producer Mira Lesmana in a virtual press conference.
Director Riri Riza will again helm the movie, promising a full-action adventure and a collection of appealing songs and choreographies fit for family entertainment.
Nearly the entire crew of the first movie is set to return to work on this installment. Off screen, Sherina will be involved in story development and take charge of music composition, replacing her teacher, the late Elfa Secoria.
Her elder sister, Virania Munaf, co-scribed the sequel together with Jujur Prananto, Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza and is also involved in writing song lyrics.
The new production celebrates Miles Films’ 25 years in the industry since March 1995, founded by Mira and Riri.
It contributed to changes in film production with docuseries Anak Seribu Pulau (Children of the Archipelago) and blockbusters Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (What’s Up with Cinta?), Gie and Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops).
The spirit and passion of Miles Film in exploring new forms and styles of filmmaking to give audiences different perspectives are reflected in its new logo, now with iridescent colors.
The production house has also developed Miles Music, which produced the soundtrack albums of Laskar Pelangi and 3 Hari Untuk Selamanya (Three Days to Forever), as well as Miles Productions for musical theater production. It produced Laskar Pelangi the Musical in collaboration with Link Entertainment.
The newest division, Miles Animation, is currently in production for an animated version of Petualangan Sherina. The project is led by Jakarta-based Langit Animasi Studio in collaboration with Surabaya’s Hompimpa Animation and Afterlab in Bandung, West Java.
While waiting for the feature-length animated film and the sequel of Petualangan Sherina to release by the end of 2021, the Jakarta Movement of Inspiration (JKTMOVEIN) is expected to again stage a musical theater performance of the work, featuring Yura Yunita, Vidi Aldiano and Reza Chandika. (ste)
