andung Mayor Dada Rosada issued a letter Monday banning public appearances by the three celebrities caught up in the high-profile sex videos that have been widely distributed since June 7.
The ban on public appearances by Ariel or Nazriel Ilham, former lead singer of band Peterpan, actress Luna Maya and TV host Cut Tari, has been imposed until their legal process is over.
Dada also ordered the Public Order officers (Satpol PP) to remove all banners and advertisement boards featuring the three stars.
"In principle, any activities involving the three celebrities have been banned in Bandung," Dada told reporters in Bandung, Monday.
The ban is not out of character for the mayor. Dada formerly banned dangdut (Bollywood-inspired pop music) singer Dewi Persik for fear her public appearance would damage the city's image.
Dada said the widespread distribution of the porn tape involving the celebrities who hailed from Bandung had embarrassed the municipality, especially after it declared itself a religious city.
The city administration, he added, had even shut down the red light district of Saritem.
"There is nothing extraordinary about this ban. This is the consequence that public figures must pay by setting a bad example," he said.
He added, however, the ban would not be applied to Peterpan, which is about to relaunchunder a new name. The band members each went their own way a few years ago.
Dada said the group could still perform in Bandung, just without its lead singer.
Deputy Mayor Ayi Vivanda, similarly, also expressed concern over what Ariel had allegedly done in the video.
"He is an icon for the youth. What he does makes a big impact on the lifestyle of our younger generation. It's destroying their morality," Ayi said.
Ariel and Luna in an interview on TVOne did not confess that those in the video were them, saying the case was still under investigation by the police.
In a related development, however, a caf* in Bandung reportedly co-owned by Luna Maya has not suffered from the negative impact of the scandal.
The caf*, 7 Sins Caf*, which is located on Jl. Diponegoro, reportedly has even been more crowded with visitors especially during the 2010 World Cup.
"We don't feel any impact from the case that involves Luna. We've welcomed even more guests, said Kenni, a waiter at the caf*, as quoted by Vivanews.
