AKARTA: Muji Indonesia, a subsidiary of Japanese retail company Mujirushi Ryohin, opened its third store in Indonesia at the Grand Indonesia shopping mall in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The move came as part of the company’s expansion, with 15 outlets planned for Indonesia by 2012.

Muji Indonesia general manager Russell Loh said at the store opening that the company would open another two stores in Jakarta by the end of the year – one at the Mall of Indonesia in North Jakarta in August and the other at Taman Anggrek Mall in West Jakarta in September.

The company’s first outlet was at Plaza Indonesia in Central Jakarta and its second at the Paris Van Java shopping center in Bandung.

Muji stores offer a wide variety of household items, men’s and ladies wear, stationery and furniture. As indicated by the company’s name, Mujirushi Ryohin, meaning “no-brand quality goods”, none of its products bear labels.

“We are planning to operate 15 stores in Indonesia by 2012 eight in Jakarta, two in Surabaya, one in Bandung, two in Medan and two in Bali,” Loh said.

Loh also said that the company was targeting a profit increase by 10 to 15 percent year on year. Currently, Muji has 140 stores in 22 countries worldwide. — JP/drs
