ndonesian aces Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2011 China Open Badminton Superseries Premier in Shanghai on Friday after a dramatic rubber game that lasted an hour and 12 minutes.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalists were defeated by Danish pair Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen 22–20, 21–23, 28–26.

World No. 10 Kido and Hendra gave the Danes a good fight in the first game at Yuan Shen Gymnasium in Pudong by chasing the world No. 3 pair all over the place and leveling the points at four and 20 before the Danes sealed the game 22–20.

Game two was even more dramatic, with both pairs exceeding and leveling the points against each other until Kido and Hendra led 11–9 and again 15–12.

However, Kido and Hendra committed several unforced errors causing the Danes to level at 15 and go on to lead at 18–15.

Again, Kido and Hendra rose up and leveled the score at 20. With the deuce, the Indonesian pair won the second game 23–21.

The decisive third game was equally dramatic, with both sides fighting point by point and it again came down to deuce.

The third game lasted longer than the previous two, with both pairs chasing each other and equalizing at 20–20 and 26–26.

After ups and downs, the Danish couple finally won 28–26 and clinched their ticket to the semifinals.

With this victory, Boe and Mogensen affirmed their domination over the Indonesian pair, having won four out of five matches against them.

With the defeat of Kido and Hendra, Indonesia is relying on men’s singles shuttler Simon Santoso, who is scheduled to play Danish world No. 4 Peter Hoeg Gade later on Friday night.

In Jakarta, Adriyanti Firdasari withdrew from the 2011 Macau Grand Prix Gold due to stomach cramps, which came during a match against Inthanon Ratchanok of Thailand in the SEA Games.

“My schedule has been cleared because I am not fully recovered yet. It’s better to be fully recovered before taking part in another competition,” Firdasari said as quoted by the official website of the Indonesian Badminton Association on Friday.
