ouse of Representatives member Ruhut Sitompul said hehad the backing of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to assume his newposition as chairman of House Commission III overseeing legal affairs.
'Pak SBY said that I am the chairman of the commission. [There is to be] no replacement,' Ruhut told reporters on Tuesday.
He said he was optimistic that he would be inaugurated into the position on Wednesday.
'There was only a handful of people who said no; the rest are fine with it,' he said.
Some members of Commission III had rejected Ruhut's leadership, arguing that they did not want the prestigious commission to become a farce.
Others said the former Golkar Party politician was no more than a 'puppet' of the party's boss, Aburizal Bakrie.
Ruhut's rivals have also dug up his past, highlighting his refusal to recognize his own son and his marriage to his first wife.
