Pevita Cleo Eileen Pearce is probably the new '€œit'€ girl of the Indonesian entertainment industry but she is reluctant to be seen as a role model.

'€œI never planned on becoming a role model, really. I am who I am,'€ she says.

'€œAmid everything they say about me, basically I'€™m just a kid who will do her best for her parents, is a student and a human, who also makes mistakes,'€ she added. '€œDon'€™t forget I'€™m just a regular girl.'€

Making her debut in a soap opera, the 21-year-old found firmer ground in acting after securing a part in Denias, Senandung di Atas Awan (Denias, a Hum Above the Clouds) in 2006.

In Denias, Pevita plays Angel, a shy elementary student '€” a character that she claimed was
familiar at that time.

Later, she carried on her career by featuring in films like Lost in Love (2008), Rasa (2009), Dilema (Dilemma, 2012), Sanubari Jakarta (Heartbeat of Jakarta, 2012) and 5cm (2012).

Pevita earned a nomination as Best Leading Actress at the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) in 2008 for her performance in Lost in Love.

This year, Pevita was nominated Best Supporting Actress by the Bandung Film Festival (FFB) for her role in 5cm.

5cm was a box-office hit in 2012 with at least 2 million viewers within 21 days of screening. It was considered a big project because the shooting process was set at Semeru volcano in East Java, which is 3,676 meters above sea level.

Her latest film project is Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck (The Sinking of the Van Der Wijck), another big project as the producers built a replica of the ship. In the film, released on Dec. 19, Pevita acts alongside Herjunot Ali and Reza Rahadian.

Amid her achievements in the film industry, Pevita revealed that whatever she had accomplished so far hadn'€™t satisfied her true goal.

She considered her careers in film as well as being a photo model and music video model as phases of her life.

'€œMy goal in life is far from what I do now, but I don'€™t want to share it just yet because I don'€™t want to jinx it. Let'€™s just wait and see,'€ she said. Pevita has been a model in at least 10 music videos for, among others, soloist Afgan and Noah band.

Due to her love of acting, Pevita took an acting class in Australia.

'€œI received a sponsorship for acting and film at the New York Film Academy in Australia. After I was finished with school, I got involved in the 5cm film project,'€ she says.

Despite her involvement in film industry, she said she was very passionate about fashion.

'€œI don'€™t know. Maybe because everything I'€™ve done so far is related to fashion '€” it'€™s something I'€™m familiar with,'€ said Pevita, who is pursuing a fashion business degree in LaSalle College, Jakarta.

Fashion, for the actress, who has an accessory brand called Hippearce, is all about sense.

'€œAt college, I'€™ve built knowledge [of the fashion business]. But when you'€™re talking about how you style up, it'€™s purely sense, nothing to do with college,'€ said the new brand ambassador for Japanese clothing firm Uniqlo.

'€œI love fashion, and it'€™s not just for me, but also for others. I mean, I love to see girls and boys, or even young ones, wearing fashionable outfits '€” it'€™s like entertainment.'€
