Heru Budi Hartono sworn in as N. Jakarta mayor

G

overnor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo swore in Heru Budi Hartono as the new mayor of North Jakarta on Monday, replacing Bambang Sugiyono, with the target of handling major projects in the mayoralty.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the edge of Cincin Lake, close to the troubled BMW Park, during an incessant downpour.

'€œI deliberately swore him in here [near the lake] because a part of the park'€™s land is being contested as it has yet to receive a land ownership certificate from the central government,'€ he said.

He added that, with his inauguration, Heru, who usually accompanied the governor on impromptu visits to the field, was expected to settle the land conflict in BMW Park and finish the regreening and face-lift programs conducted at the Pluit reservoir in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

'€œThe new mayor will have to clear the state land in Marunda of illegal squatters, build more low-cost apartments for relocated residents and settle the land conflicts in BMW Park, where a soccer stadium will be built to replace the one in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta,'€ he said.

Bambang was appointed as assistant to the city'€™s secretary for social welfare. Jokowi last year swore in Fathahillah as the West Jakarta mayor in the Tambora low-cost apartment compound and Syamasudin Noor as the South Jakarta mayor in Betawi cultural conservation center in Setu Babakan.
