ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) deputy secretary-general, Ahmad Basarah, said party presidential candidate Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's running mate would be announced Friday.
'It will be announced on May 16. So, let's just wait,' said Basarah in a discussion in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by kompas.com. He refused to give further details.
The PDI-P declared Jokowi's presidential candidacy in an event held at Pitung's House (a Betawi hero during the Dutch colonial era) on March 14. The same day, at the PDI-P headquarters on Jl. Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, party chair Megawati Soekarnoputri announced her go-ahead for Jokowi as the party's presidential candidate.
The registration period for presidential-vice presidential nominations is open from May 18 to May 20, according to the General Elections Commission (KPU).
Basarah said there would be a meeting between Megawati, Jokowi and leaders of two parties who had formed a coalition with the PDI-P, namely Surya Paloh of the NasDem Party and Muhaimin Iskandar of the National Awakening Party (PKB).
'We will discuss the best vice presidential candidate for Jokowi. Everybody can offer suggestions but the decision will be in the hands of Bu Mega,' said Basarah. (dhi/ebf)
